Born in 1962 in the United Kingdom, Daniel Taub has served in a variety of roles with the Israeli Foreign Ministry. In 2011 he was appointed as Ambassador of Israel to the Court of Saint James. A lifelong Orthodox Jew, Taub made a strong impression during his time as ambassador. The period of 2011 -2015 saw a great deal of turmoil in the Middle East. According to Taub, Israel has always considered Britain an important partner in international relations. This is because of Britain’s strong role in Europe, its power in media and its central place in the financial world.
Although he encountered opinions that differed from his own, Daniel Taub did not have an issue with performing his job, which he believed was to help people understand the Israeli leadership and the Israeli people. Thoughtful discussion helped Taub engage others in his diplomatic duties.
During Daniel Taub’s time as the Israeli Ambassador in Britain, the same terrorist groups that caused problems Israel and Palestine became threats to the rest of the world. Taub stressed that this highlighted the importance of providing Israel with strong security before Britain withdrew from the country.
Daniel likened it to the vacuum that was present in the fight against antisemitism. Although the fight was largely inactive at the time, progress was being made in Egypt. It was Taub’s hope that Europe would also take a stronger stance against antisemitism.
Although he was not an ambassador to the Jewish community, Daniel Taub and his wife did their best to attend events they were invited to. It earned the community’s respect and affection. Daniel Taub left a mark on the U.K., and did much to strengthen the relationship between Israel and Britain. He continues to advocate for his homeland and brings Israel’s case to public attention. He may no longer serve as the Israeli ambassador in the U.K., but his work continues on.
