He achieved a Master of Architect degree from the renowned Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana. He also received a BA degree in English and graduated as cum laude from the University of the South in Tennessee.
Mr. Ivy’s is the CEO and the Executive Vice President of the American Institute of Architects headquartered in Washington, DC. He also carries the title of ‘Fellow’ at the NAIA. Since Robert became the leader of the AIA, its membership has grown exponentially.
Just like his managerial leadership at the McGraw-Hill’s Architectural Record, his skills also helped to vastly grow the magazine nationally and internationally.
As an outside the box thinker when it comes to designing and constructing residential, commercial, industrial, educational, and social buildings, Robert Ivy is certainly one of the most forward thinkers of modern architecture.

It is no wonder that Robert Ivy was honored in April 2018 with the acclaimed Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was given by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters (‘MIAL’).
The MIAL is a non-profit organization who honors and recognizes Mississippi inspired artists and art patrons who have contributed extraordinarily to the industry and mankind. However, this is the first time that an architect received the MIAL award.
Robert Ivy is an accomplished author. His written work – “Fay Jones: Architect” is used in educational institutions for architecture. He has received many accolades and awards from distinguished organizations like his alma maters, global architectural organizations, and artistic institutions.
Robert is a notable figure as a member of many associations, like the International Circle of Architecture Critics and his work with the U.S. Commissioner at the Venice Architecture Biennale. He serves on the advisory boards of the Universities of Tulane and Mississippi State University.
In the international setting he is a member of China’s Urban Planning, China’s Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures. He also serves as the member of The World Architecture Festival.
